Drones to Improve Forest Conservation in Liberia

Conservation International-Liberia has provided five drones to Liberia’s Forestry Development Authority (FDA) to strengthen forest conservation in the country.

CI Liberia Country Director Peter Mulbah handed over the drones to FDA’s Managing Director C. Mike Doryen, to enhance the agency’s ability to effectively monitor and manage the country’s protected forests, and their rich array of biodiversity, including forest elephants, pygmy hippos, and chimpanzees.

This comes amid heightening threats of illegal logging and hunting of protected wildlife within Liberia’s protected areas.

The donation was provided under a Global Environment Facility-funded project to improve conservation and sustainable use of Liberia’s coastal natural capital, by mainstreaming the value of nature into the country’s development planning.
